Summary: In August, Fresno COG submitted a USDOT FY 24 Safe Streets and Roads for All grant to develop a Fresno County Regional Safety Action Plan. Staff received 19 letters of support from member agencies, community-based organizations, and state agencies. The Safety Action Plan proposes to include robust engagement with communities throughout the county, school districts, and stakeholders to develop a robust list of safety improvement projects. The Safety Action Plan will open opportunities for jurisdictions and Fresno COG to apply for implement funds. Staff connected with jurisdictions, as well as Fresno Unified, who have been working on similar efforts to coordinate future partnerships. Staff anticipates awardee notification of by end of this year.

Summary: During the previous SRTS Subcommittee meeting on June 27, staff discussed opportunities for RTP Project Criteria revisions to incorporate SRTS. Fresno COG staff and the Programming Technical Working Group developed revisions to the 2026 RTP Project Evaluation Criteria. This update has included allocating a maximum score for the historical safety criteria, for bike and pedestrian, transit, and road maintenance projects if they are located < .25 miles from a school.
